Genie Brittingham Erstad

California, She Who Remembers audio archives. Died April 9, 2002
Genie Brittingham Erstad, known as She Who Remembers was a respected political activist, public speaker, hemp activist, friend, radio talk show host, and talk show archiver for Pacifica Network radio station 90.7 KPFK Los Angeles (Pacifica is 100% Corporate Free Public Radio). Genie collected and recorded these hard core underground audio archives for KPFK and distributed them herself on cassette under the name She Who Remembers for over 12 years.
Her tenacious recording of events and radio broadcasts has been combined into an audio archive of wide scope and great value to researchers and historians, as well as being a point of interest and opportunity for anyone who cares about drug policy reform, industrial hemp, or a myriad of conspiracies.
A collection of her works are still available online.

To All Friends, Family, and All Others.....
I'm sad to have to announce to those of you that my mom, Genie Brittingham Erstad- She Who Remembers passed peacefully on April 9, 2002.
She has been struggling with on and off health problems for the last few years, starting from the malathion poisoning and being exposed to what is most likely toxic mold. No matter how ill she got she still was strong and did everything she could to take care of my two sisters and I, and still do what she could to fight for what she believed in.
She spent so much time enlightening people and basically spreading the information, whether it was with the Hemp movement or the many other groups/causes she was so dedicated to. I can't even think of all the Earth Day, anti- malathion, anti- war, and Hemp Rallies I had the chance to be at because of her. All the people she recorded and archived over the years, she always told me it was her way of spreading the truth.
Even when she was sick, she always monitored the radio and internet, passing on the most important news almost every day.
I feel so honored to have been able to spend so much time with her especially being able to care for her these last couple years. She was my mom and my bestfriend. She inspired so many people and always tried to find the good in everyone. I learned so much from her, I know I
wouldn't be who I am today if it wasn't for her. I will always love her.
Her wishes were to be cremated and scattered in the mountains. She was very spiritual, but not religious, so there will not be any services. I plan to have the celebration she wanted and with the tradition of her annual May B-days party, I feel it would be best to have a gathering here hopefully Memorial weekend. I will let everyone know when I figure everything out and thing get settled. She will be turning 50 on May 24.
I really appreciate everyone who has called or written. It helps my sisters and meI get through all of this. It's going to be real tough without her being here but I know she will always be with us.
I can be reached by this email address( as long as I can keep with it) or my email is Juniper1227@webtv.net.
If anyone has any stories or comments about the amazing She Who Remembers they would like to share please send them. I am collecting them to put together for my sisters and family. It is greatly appreciated.
She will always be greatly loved and always remembered. .... ..Her daughter, Jennifer Brittingham
